MAGENTA ET LES CHATS - MAGENTA AND THE CATS

 

Chez Magenta, l’amour des chats ne date pas d’hier. Ceux qui connaissent la compagnie depuis longtemps le savent. 

Au tout début, il y a eu Roxane, connue sous son nom d’artiste « Roxane-le-Cat ». 

Plus qu’une mascotte, elle est vite devenue une incontournable part de l’image de la compagnie, 

recevant même des cadeaux et du courrier de ses fans.

At Magenta, the love of cats is not new. Those who know the company for a long time know it. 

At the very beginning, there was Roxane, known under her artist name "Roxane-le-Cat". 

More than a mascot, she soon became an essential part of the image of the company, 

even receiving gifts and mail from her fans.

 

Roxane n’est plus depuis quelques années, après une très belle et longue vie. Et plusieurs chats lui ont succédé chez Magenta. Nous inspirant plusieurs étampes, dont les fameux « Chats du Mois », séries limitées offertes pendant quelques années. Sans parler de certaines des plus connues parmi nos étampes de grandes dimensions. Étampes qui ont beaucoup contribué au succès de Magenta, étant l’une des premières compagnies à oser les grands formats.

Roxane is gone for a few years, after a very beautiful and long life. And several cats have succeeded her at Magenta. 

They inspired several stamps, including the famous "Cats of the Month", a limited series offered for a few years. 

Not to mention some of the best known among our large size stamps. Stamps that have contributed a lot to the success 

of Magenta, being one of the first companies to dare large formats.

 

 

Il y avait quelques années que nous n’avions plus créé d’étampes de chats de ce type, réalistes et artistiques tout à la fois. Celle-ci représente Olivia, une adorable petite chatte qui nous a quittés récemment. 

Cette carte est un hommage à elle, mais aussi à toutes les autres adorables boules de fourrure 

qui ont peuplé notre vie d’artistes.

It had been a few years since we had created cat stamps of this type, realistic and artistic at the same time. 

This one represents Olivia, an adorable little cat who left us recently. 

This card is a tribute to her, but also to all the other adorable fur balls that have enhanced our lives as artists.

 

 

La petite Olivia est coloriée dans un joyeux mélange de crayons de couleur (surtout dans sa fourrure) et de marqueurs. 

Étant d’assez grande dimension, il est important de l’encrer parfaitement, et le rouleau encreur est toujours une bonne option. Sinon, attention à ne pas faire de lignes en encrant. 

Little Olivia is coloured in a happy mixture of coloured pencils (especially in her fur) and markers. 

Being of quite large size, it is important to ink it perfectly, and the ink brayer is always a good option. 

Otherwise, be careful not to make lines while inking.

Le fond de la carte est fait de poudres Nuance sur papier aquarelle. 

Plusieurs des toutes nouvelles étampes l’ornent pour former un cadre agréable.

The background of the card is made of Nuance powders on watercolour cardstock. 

Several of the new stamps adorn it to form a pleasant setting. 

Les papillons sont coloriés aux marqueurs (à base d’eau) sur le caoutchouc pour en nuancer les couleurs.

The butterflies are coloured with markers (water-based) on the rubber to shade the colours.

Roxane-le-Cat

Je me suis promis de partager des souvenirs sur Magenta et je ne saurais les commencer 

sans parler d’un petit être qui a eu une grande importance dans le succès de la compagnie, 

notre Roxane, une ravissante chatte calicot.

Since I want to share some memories from Magenta, it seems important to me to start talking about 

a little creature who became a huge part of our success, 

our lovely calicot cat, Roxane.

La toute première adresse de Magenta, rue Sainte-Anne à Saint-Hilaire, Qc

Roxane est arrivée à Magenta quelques jours avant l’Halloween en 1992 

alors qu’elle recherchait un lieu sûr et confortable pour s’établir. 

Elle a choisi notre petite boutique qui s’appelait “Les ateliers du Chat Bleu”, 

certaine qu’avec un pareil nom, on ne pouvait qu’y aimer les chats.

Roxane adopted Magenta few days before Halloween in 1992 

while searching for a safe and comfortable home. 

She chose our little boutique, probably because of its name.

In French it means “The Blue Cat Studio” and certainly with such a name, we love cats.

Elle est immédiatement devenue un membre important de l’équipe 

et a grandement aidé à créer la compagnie Magenta. 

En particulier, elle adorait assister aux cours d’étampes et sauter sur la table

 pour aider personnellement les élèves.

She instantly became an important member of our team 

and helped us create Magenta Rubber Stamps. 

She always enjoyed being a part of our business.

She was very interested in classes and would jump onto the table

 to help the students.

Quand Magenta a commencé à vendre ses produits aux boutiques, 

elle s’est tout-de-suite proposée pour s’assurer du “confort” des étampes à expédier. 

Pour ce faire, quotidiennement, elle s’installait pour une sieste dans chaque boîte prête à fermer. 

Il nous arrivait d’avertir les clients que s’ils trouvaient quelques poils de chat dans leur commande, 

c’était une garantie de qualité du produit…

When Magenta began wholesaling to storefronts, 

she offered to check the “comfort” of the rubber stamps to be shipped.

 Everyday she tested the stamps by napping in all the boxes waiting to be shipped. 

We would tell our customers that cat hair on the stamps was proof of quality control. 

…With Roxane’s approval.

Mais c’est grâce à sa présence dans les vidéos de Magenta que Roxane 

– nommée pour la circonstance “Roxane-le-Cat” – 

est réellement devenue célèbre. 

Elle adorait les tournages et y agissait toujours exactement comme nous le lui demandions 

(bon, j’admets qu’il y avait toujours un pot d’olives vertes à proximité, sa gâterie favorite…).

Roxane truly became famous by acting in all Magenta’s videos! 

It is when she became officially "Roxane-le-Cat".

She had so much fun when we were shooting the videos, 

as she was always willing to act in the way we needed her to. 

(Well, we always had a jar of green olives nearby…her favorite treat!)

Roxane a passé environ 10 ans à travailler à Magenta. 

Elle était la plus incroyable chatte qu’on puisse imaginer, comprenant d’ailleurs aussi bien l’anglais que le français. 

Cependant, lorsque Magenta a déménagé dans un nouveau bâtiment, 

Roxane l’a rapidement trouvé trop grand et industriel pour elle. 

Aussi, étant donné son âge, elle a clairement fait entendre qu’elle souhaitait prendre sa retraite. 

Comme elle connaissait ma maison, grâce au tournage de certains vidéos, 

dont “The Art of Living Magenta Style” auquel elle avait participé, 

elle me fit part de son désir d’y vivre désormais. 

Imaginez, un vrai lit, une télé et un jardin, ainsi que des parents pour prendre soin d’elle…

Roxane spent ten years at Magenta. 

She was the most amazing cat, understanding everything – in English and in French. 

When Magenta moved to a new location Roxane found it to be too large and industrial for her tastes 

and because of her age she decided to retire to my house. 

She was familiar with my home as this is where one of her videos was filmed. 

After filming “The Art of Living Magenta Style” Roxane decided she wanted 

a garden to sit in and a comfortable bed, TV, and loving parents to care for her.

Elle a donc vécu huit ans avec mon mari et moi. 

Nous aurons eu des moments merveilleux tous les trois car sa présence ne nous a apporté que de la joie. 

Elle nous a quittés le mardi 15 juin 2010.

Je n’oublierai jamais cette chatte unique et je suis reconnaissante à la vie 

de nous l’avoir laissée autant d’années, 

bien que son départ soit survenu encore trop tôt pour nous.

Roxane aura eu une longue vie pour un chat, une vie remplie de l’amour de tous, 

autant à Magenta que grâce aux visiteurs et admirateurs qui l’ont suivie à travers les années. 

Elle aura reçu de nombreuses lettres et cadeaux, les appréciant tous. 

Comme elle était adulte au moment où elle s’est installée avec nous, son âge précis nous est inconnu. 

Cependant, nous savons qu’elle avait au moins 21 ans… et sans doute plus.

She spent eight years with my husband and I. 

We had the best time together. She made us happy. 

She passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 15^th, 2010.

I know I will never forget this unique cat 

and I am blessed that I could live with her for such a long time 

even though I feel she has left us too quickly.

Roxane had a long life filled with love from everyone at Magenta and all of Magenta’s visitors. 

She received many letters and gifts over the years and appreciated all of them. 

She was an adult when Magenta adopted her, so we really do not know her precise age, 

but we know that she was at least 21 years old…. possibly more.

Roxane restera à jamais dans nos mémoires comme étant la plus belle

et exceptionnelle chatte que l’on puisse rencontrer.

and wonderful cat we have ever met.
